Dear friends,

Welcome to the website of the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations.

In today's globalized and changing world, we believe that the United Nations have an ever more important role to play. The system that keeps our world running is in need of reform. Our support to this reform is based on a strong belief that without multilateral cooperation among nations, peace and development will remain elusive. We therefore need to make the Organization more effective and more flexible, but- at the same time- more transparent and accountable in every aspect of its work.

During the biennium 2005-2006, Greece has been a non permanent member of the Security Council. Assuming this membership, Greece felt its great responsibility towards the international community. Our aim was to contribute constructively to the work of the Council in preserving peace and security and we believe that we were successful.

Peace and security cannot be accomplished without economic and social development. The Millennium Development Goals should be implemented and we are determined to fulfill our commitments.

This website represents an effort to introduce you to some of the basic principles that guide Greece's presense within the Organisation. We sincerely hope you will find it useful.
